خلاصه يا چکيده : ‭2011 in sheikh children hospital. The data of children who underwent operation for totally implanted silicon catheter (TICVC) was gathered from hospital files and was completed by calling to parents. Results: during the study time 70 childeren received TICVC which all of them except five children were followed by telephone call. 47 of them were younger than 2 years and 71/4 had a malignant disease. Catheter infection occurred in 23 of cases (19 childeren). Signs of catheter infection included chills and fever during catheter usage in 5/37 (6 cases), cellulitis in 56.and endocarditis in one patient ( 6/2). Blood culture was positive in 75 of catheter infections. Coagulase negative staphylococcus(5 cases) and candida (3cases) wase the main organisms. The success rate of medical therapy in catheter infections was 68 in all cases. Catheter was removed in 22 pateints ( 31/4) which was due to infection in half of them. The mean time to removal in these cases was 15/3 month. Complete and partial satisfication with TICVC was reported by 45 and 34 of parents. Conclusion: the incidence of catheter infection specially local cellulitis is very high in this population and nesecities revision in all procedures of catheter implantation and care.
