خلاصه يا چکيده : ‭value<0.001)Complications related to doxycycline was not observed in the treatment and .follow up course. Conclusion: Doxycycline is safer and less expensive drug than pentavalent antimoniates, that can play a role in the treatment of acute cutaneous leishmaniasis if future surveyes confirm effectiveness of this safe and available drug, so we recommend that randomized controlled clinical trials about effectiveness of doxycycline in the treatment of acute cutaneous leishmaniasis would be performed in the future surveyes. -Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a chronic disease that is endemic in many countries in the world. This disease is endemic in Iran and Khorasan province. The standard treatment of leishmaniasis is pentavalent antimoniates.Treatment of leishmaniasis with this drug have complications such as cardiac arrythmias, renal and hepatic complications, so many reaserchers are interested to investigate about new treatment methods without aforementioned complications of pentavalent antimoniates.Khairulin et al in 1989 reported effectiveness of doxycycline in the treatment of acute cutaneous leishmaniasis from Russia and also Masmoudi et al in 2008 reported effectiveness of doxycycline in the treatment of acute cutaneous leishmaniasis from Tunisia. Method: We did this survey on patients at dermatology departments of Qaem and Emam Reza university hospitals from 2011 to 2013. We prescribed Doxycycline 200 mg/d for 30 days after informed and written consent was obtained. Diameter of lesions before and after treatment was measured in millimeters. Results: Mean diameter of lesions after treatment decreased. Mean diameter of lesions before treatment was 21.56 mm and after treatment was 15.07 mm. This decrease confirmed with Wilcoxon test.
