خلاصه يا چکيده : ‭specific antigen test (PSA) reduce mortality rate of prostate cancer. Some factors affecting the levels of PSA and decrease or increase in prostate cancer detection. Some studies suggest the effects of body weight and body mass index (BMI) on PSA and there are some studies with opposite opinion. Hence, in this study we examined the relationship between BMI and PSA.Materials and Methods:In the present study of 140 patients with LUTS(Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms) in urology clinic of Imam Reza Hospital affiliated by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Patients with prostate cancer , prostatitis ,recurrent UTI , taking finasteride and history of prostate surgery excluded. The data of body weight, body mass index, prostate volume,PSA and Free PSA were collected. Patients divided in two groups; group A with a body mass index less than 27 and group B with BMI equal and greater than 27 .The data were analyzed with the software SPSS (version 15). Results:Two groups in age, prostate volume, and Free PSA was not statistically different. Mean PSA level in group A is 3.93-In recent years the use of prostate‬▒‭4.3 and in group B is 2.73‬▒‭Prostate Cancer - Body Mass Index -specific antigen -1.3. there is a significant difference in mean PSA level between two groups(P:0.04). We tested the correlation between PSA levels and BMI that were inversely correlated with increased BMI(P=0.04 , R=0.175).Conclusions:This study showed that PSA reduced by increasing BMI. But BMI does not affect free PSA thus ratio between total PSA and free PSA rises then prostate cancer diagnosis is delayed.Keywords: Prostate‬
